Jessica Paist, LMFT (she/her)

Owner & Executive Director

I help teen girls and young adult women develop assertiveness, build boundaries, and create a healthy self-image so that they have the confidence and courage to navigate their world from a place of self-respect and strength.

How I work

My clients would say I operate with a glass half full attitude. In fact, they often will joke that I’m annoyingly optimistic. And they are usually right. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to empathize with another person and validate their experience (no matter how difficult). And while we might sit in the sadness or muck of an experience, and sometimes for an extended period of time, I will always offer a glass half full perspective when a client is ready to hear it. And usually that’s exactly what we might need - to know it’s safe to sit in big emotions and overwhelm and also be able to see a different perspective. It’s finding the balance between honoring and validating an experience and also pushing for change.

A second unique perspective that I bring to sessions is my background in family systems. I have extensive training and experience operating from what’s called a systemic approach - having an individual client in front of me and being able to understand how they fit into all of their systems: family, school, friends, work, etc.. Taking it a step further, we look at how those systems are either helping us grow or keeping us stuck; we look at communication patterns and family roles and peer expectations, for example. Nobody operates in a vacuum, and it’s invaluable to be able to see a client systemically in order to work towards healing and change.

Research tells us that while education and training are important, it’s actually the relationship a client has with their therapist that determines whether therapy is effective. To that point, you will usually find me using art, games, or other creative ways to connect with my clients. I give my clients the freedom to be who they are unapologetically, I am always their biggest cheerleader, and through these authentic and trusting connections, I also create space to be able to safely push and work towards change. Let’s face it - teens aren’t always thrilled about going to therapy. I will usually tell parents of unsure teens that if they can get their teen in the door, I can get them to stay.

My Education & Trainings

I graduated from LaSalle University in 2011 with my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a specialization in working specifically with children and teens.

I have extensive training and hold a certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which allows me to confidently support working with high-risk youth. I’m also certified to provide Trauma-Informed Care.

I have years of experience working in schools as a SAP Team member, running groups for middle and high school students using evidence-based treatment programs to proactively teach skills to mitigate high-risk behaviors. This experience makes me strongly skilled in assessing mental health needs in teens, designing appropriate programming, and understanding the intricacies of how schools navigate mental health.

The relationship with your therapist is a large part of your success. Here’s more about me!

My favorite people in the world call me Mom and Auntie Jessie. You can often find me with my three kids - we love to explore outside, play card games, color, and cook. When I’m on my own, I’m probably reading a book (I love beachy reads), going to the gym, or doing something creative. Super fun fact: I used to make and sell my own jewelry when I was younger. My favorite place in the world is Cape Cod. I love a good documentary, I hate tomatoes, and I’m not a fan of any pets. My oldest daughter and I get sucked into teen dramas and our guilty pleasure is watching shows like Love Island. I’m fiercely loyal to the people in my world and I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by my Girl Gang - my sisters and closest friends - who always have my back and who hold a mirror up to me when I need it most.

Working With Me

As the owner of CFE, a significant part of my job is supporting my amazing clinical team and creating an environment where they can truly thrive as therapists. For that reason, my availability for individual and family sessions is limited; however, I do offer daytime slots for clients who are looking for specialized therapy in building assertiveness, improving self-esteem, and exploring how to set and maintain boundaries. I work out of our Jenkintown, PA location, or virtually, and sessions are offered at a rate of $210 for an individual session.

If you or your teen are ready to build a unique and specialized therapeutic relationship, reach out to me to schedule. We will work together to challenge long-held beliefs, embrace your strengths, and help you to develop the skills, confidence, and courage to navigate your world from a place of self-respect and strength.
